Key Benefits

  1. Convenient for Everyday Use ( Portable and no need to use conductive gel)

Researchers have developed a non-contact EEG technology that can measure brain activity through the hair, unlike conventional laboratory EEG systems that require conductive gel.

  2. Manage stress more effectively to prevent chronic stress and burnout, while potentially reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s disease associated with long-term stress.

  3. Track and evaluate your progress in meditation practice over time.

Feature:

  • The device can measure brain waves from the frontal and temporal regions of the head. Researchers hypothesize that some of these signals may be associated with activity in the insular cortex (insula) via Low-Frequency and High-Frequency Brain Waves

  • Low-Frequency Brain Waves

During mindfulness practice, when we maintain awareness of ourselves and the present moment, researchers suggest that low-frequency brain waves, particularly theta and delta waves (approximately 1–8 Hz), may become more prominent.

The researchers developed an application featuring an animated image that expands and contracts, guiding users to synchronize their breathing with the movement.

This may lead to a reduction in the amplitude of delta brain waves, which researchers suggest could be associated with activity in the brain’s Default Mode Network (DMN).

The Default Mode Network (DMN) is a network of interconnected brain regions that communicate and remain active even when there are no external stimuli or specific tasks requiring our attention.

In people experiencing high levels of stress or depression, activity in the Default Mode Network (DMN) may be higher than usual.

Interestingly, DMN activity can also increase during creative thinking, suggesting that this brain network plays a role in both self-focused thought and creativity.

The key may therefore lie in our ability to regulate the activity of the Default Mode Network (DMN)—knowing when to activate or quiet it, and whether we can direct our thoughts toward creative and constructive thinking.

These brain waves may provide an indirect indication of activity associated with the Default Mode Network (DMN), but they do not measure DMN activity directly.

In contrast, functional MRI (fMRI) can identify which brain regions are active and how different regions communicate with one another, providing a more detailed picture of the brain's functional connectivity.

  • High-Frequency Brain Waves

In addition to monitoring low-frequency brain waves, we can also observe changes in high-frequency brain activity.

For example, changes in brain signals recorded from the frontal and temporal cortex may be associated with stress and could potentially help assess accumulated stress levels.

This information may help users become more aware of which situations or factors trigger stress, mental restlessness, or difficulty concentrating, allowing them to better understand their mental state and recognize patterns over time.

This awareness allows users to better manage situations or factors that trigger stress, whether by addressing the underlying causes, taking short breaks, or practicing meditation.

Over time, these strategies may help improve learning and concentration, reduce the risk of burnout, and manage chronic stress, which has been associated with an increased risk of cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease.
