Purr Nova
Preliminary Screening Test for Blood in Cat Urine Using Cat Litter
Limitation :
The test uses urine collected from clumped cat litter, which may dilute the concentration of blood in the urine sample.
The preliminary screening test can indicate only a Level 3 risk (>2,500 RBC/µL).
If the urine test result is positive, the cat should be taken to a veterinarian as soon as possible for further examination and appropriate treatment.
Key Benefits
Indicates a potential risk of feline urinary tract conditions, such as kidney disease, bladder stones, and cystitis, with a convenient test that simply uses a clump of cat litter mixed with the test solution.
Provides 100% accuracy, comparable to laboratory testing at a veterinary hospital, because it uses the same type of sensor used by veterinarians for diagnostic testing.
Brand :Purr Nova
How to Use
1. Mix Scoop out the clump of cat litter mixed with the test reagent solution.
(Urine collected from other surfaces can provide a better sample.)
2. Apply Place a few drops of the mixed solution onto the test strip.
3. Wait Read the result after 10 minutes.
Positive: Both C and T lines turn green → Blood detected in urine.
Negative: C turns green and T turns yellow → No blood detected in urine.
Invalid: Both lines remain yellow, or only T turns green → Invalid result. Please repeat the test.
Innovation Background:
Traditionally, diagnosing conditions such as kidney disease or cystitis in cats may require collecting a urine sample directly from the bladder using a needle or obtaining a sample through the urinary tract. These procedures can cause discomfort to the cat.
The research team wanted to address this problem by developing a cat urine screening test that is easier and less stressful for cats. The test allows cat owners to perform preliminary screening for signs that may be associated with kidney or urinary tract problems without invasive urine collection. Urine samples left by the cat, including urine collected from cat litter or other surfaces, may also be used.
The innovation was developed by Dr. Lanchakorn Amornkitbamrung, a C2F postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University, and Managing Director of Product Development at Wealthy Moggie Innovation Co., Ltd., in collaboration with Associate Professor Dr. Khanet Wongravee from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University. The project received research funding from the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) under the Thai Inventors to World Inventors Prototype Project.
